When you operate a family business that has survived a World War, has seen 21 Prime Ministers in office over it's 94 years of trading and has the honour of being the oldest printer in the Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch area, it brings with it a sense of pride, but also of responsibility.
Our business is steeped in tradition and holds family as one of it's key values. Peter is the current owner and his Great Uncle Cyril (pictured) was the founder of the Ashley Press back in 1932. Unable to join the war effort, but not deterred by the loss of a leg from childhood polio, this phenomenal man operated a pedal press in a solo enterprise until his brother Len (Peter's Grandad) joined him on his return from military service. Together they ran the presses until Cyril's retirement. Martin (Len's Son and Peter's Dad) joined the business in 1964 and eventually took ownership, moving the business away from its original roots in Sherwood Avenue to Creekmoor Industrial Estate, where it remained until Peter's ownership and its move to it's current location in Brixey Business Park.
But it's not just the Jones men who have contributed to the success of the business! Peter's Grandma Doris remained a dedicated employee into her late 80's and could often be seen at work in her print finishing role whilst also making sure there was always a fresh pot of tea and Peter's Mum Hazel, (Martin's Wife) regularly delivers to our customers. Kirstie (Peter's Wife) has now joined the business as Creative Director focusing on social media and our website.
Whilst tradition and family heritage are at our core, our fresh approach to the latest technology, our environmental values and the drive to involve ourselves in the ever shifting role of print are what makes the Ashley Press a integral part of the past, present and future of the printing industry.
Here's to another 94 years!
